With the raising of the flag on the mast in front of the Government building at 8 am, a ceremony marking the 14th anniversary of the declaration of independence will begin in Kosovo.
As announced by the Government of Kosovo, the celebration will continue with the laying of wreaths on the graves of former President Ibrahim Rugova and Adem Demaci.
Also, a solemn session of the Assembly is scheduled for 11 a.m., while a parade of members of the Kosovo Security Force and the Kosovo Police will be held an hour later.
The Government of Kosovo has announced that the celebration of the anniversary of the declaration of independence will continue with a reception organized by the President and Prime Minister of Kosovo, as well as concerts by the Kosovo Philharmonic and the Shota ensemble.
Numerous congratulations from foreign diplomats on the occasion of Independence Day
Numerous congratulations on the occasion of Kosovo’s Independence Day were sent by many officials from different countries, including the President of the United States of America, Joseph Biden (Let’s link this).
The President of Switzerland, Ignacio Cassis, sent congratulations to the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani. He said friendly relations between Switzerland and Kosovo, based on mutual trust, are key to jointly addressing major global and regional challenges.
The President of Switzerland wished the citizens of Kosovo a peaceful and prosperous future.
The President of Austria also joined the congratulations. He said he welcomed and supported the important friendship and partnership between Kosovo and Austria.
“Austria and Kosovo have excellent bilateral relations, political, economic, scientific and cultural exchange. Despite the pandemic, your visit, Madam President, and several visits at the government level have further deepened this cooperation during 2021,” the congratulatory message from the President of Austria reads.
Osmani also received a telegram congratulating her on Independence Day from the Queen of the United Kingdom.
“On the occasion of the important holiday of your Independence Day, I would like to congratulate Your Excellency and send my congratulations to the people of Kosovo. As we go through global health challenges together, resolutely and persistently, I wish you better times in the future,” Queen Elizabeth’s telegram said.
The President of Italy, Sergio Matarella, also congratulated Kosovo on the Independence Day.
“Following the friendship and closeness that unites our countries, Italy will continue to support Kosovo in its efforts to consolidate democratic institutions, in a European perspective that we hope will be increasingly tangible. In that spirit, we will continue to work on bringing Kosovo and its civil society closer to Europe, especially to the younger generations, “Matarella said in a telegram.
Matarella also pointed out that Italy will continue to lead in terms of peace and security in the Balkans.
On the eve of Independence Day, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, congratulated the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.
“I wish all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and you personally, on my behalf and on behalf of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a happy Independence Day.
Encouraged and delighted by the improvement of relations between the two friendly countries, we are convinced that the path of economic, political and any other cooperation and friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Kosovo will be of special importance for the citizens of our countries in the near future.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Kosovo share common strategic foreign policy priorities, membership in NATO and the European Union. Only together and in cooperation with partners who share the same values, we can reach our goal,” the message reads.
In 2008, the Assembly of Kosovo adopted the Declaration of Independence. Kosovo officials said at the time that this act opened a new page in history and changed the political map of Europe.
Kosovo declared independence while President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci were at the helm.
The symbol of the declaration of independence in Pristina is the monument “New Born”, which gets a new color every year.
