There is still no epilogue to the deaths of four Russian citizens found without signs of life in the sauna of a hotel in Qerret i Kavaja on October 15 of this year. It remains a tragic and mysterious conclusion, while there is much speculation as to whether it was a sophisticated deliberate murder by the Russian authorities, since one of the dead turns out to have been a former Russian soldier.
Criminology professor Ervin Karamuço has indirectly raised the hypothesis that the Russian state may have a hand in these deaths. "The plot is murder because of the background that one of these people had," Karamuço declared to Top Channel.
"I can't say it's a state assassination, but I can say it's a very suspicious death. We'll see what our laboratories, which are otherwise very modest, say. They can find the cause, but they won't find the spectrum of who the determining factor is that led to this major disorder with interruption of vital functions and the death of all 4 people at once," he said.
He believes that currently undetectable vectors may have been used, which may not have been used there at the hotel but may have been used previously.
Otherwise, after the tourists had arrived at the hotel, they went to relax in the sauna facilities. They had ordered drinks, but when the waiter went to deliver them, he found them without any signs of life.
Natalia (Natalya) Burenkova (58), Sergei (Sergey) Burenkov (60), Nikita Belousov (37) and Ekaterina Burenkova (31) were all from the same family.
According to the Police Report, the deaths of these people occurred as a result of asphyxiation from the high dose of chlorine in the sauna.
However, what makes this event suspicious is its classification as a "murder" by the investigation team. Unofficial sources have indicated that the bodies were not found in the sauna, but in the hotel's indoor pool, where there was not enough steam to cause 4 people to suffocate at once.
Suspicions of murder have increased after the past of Sergey Burenkov (one of the victims) as a former general in the Russian army was revealed.
In addition to the reactions from experts in the field, there have also been reactions from the victims' friends. Anastasia, Sergey Burenkov's friend, spoke to the Russian media outlet "Kuryer Sreda".
"We worked together. I'm shocked. Something happened to them, I'm sure they couldn't have drowned or been poisoned at the same time. Someone would have moved or had to fall, but they stayed in their seats. Nonsense things are being written, maybe we'll never find out how they died," she said.
This event is not yet a finished story, the hidden hand has not yet been revealed. Mysterious deaths of important Russian citizens outside of Russia have been recorded before, as was the case in Salisbury, Great Britain, where the “Novichok” poison was used. The people in question were people with a profile close to that of Sergei Burenkov.
