The Balkans needs more support for independent journalism and fact-checking to counter the information influence of Russia and China.
This was stated by researcher Adam Fivenson in an interview with The Geopost.
According to him, Russia uses propaganda and information operations, while China expands influence through relationships with elites and cultural institutions.
Fivenson stressed that cuts in US funding for independent media and organizations that combat disinformation have weakened these efforts.
He assessed that the European Union should invest more in independent media, media education and strengthening democratic institutions in the Balkans, emphasizing that the sustainability of society is essential to counter propaganda and protect public trust.
