Iranian security forces clashed with protesters in several cities in new protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, after she was arrested in Tehran for “inappropriate clothing”.
The protesters clashed with police in Tehran, Tabriz, Karaj, Yazd, Sanandaj, Sardasht and other cities.
State media reported that police used tear gas against the rioters
Protesters chanted “Women, life, freedom” as women burned their scarves.
Several university professors resigned in protest over Mahsa Amini’s death, while students at several universities refused to attend classes.
Iranian authorities have accused “thugs” associated with “foreign enemies”of inciting the unrest.
Special courts have been set up to prosecute the “rioters,” according to Reuters, recalling that according to official figures, 41 people, including security forces, were killed during the riots.
Human rights groups say the number of victims is higher. /Fonet, N1/
