Ukrainian forces on the eastern front line of the country say they are prepared to face a new attack by Russian forces. After declaring that the capture of the Donbas region is the main target of the war, Moscow has resumed the full military offensive along a 480-kilometer-long front.
Ukrainian forces on the front line in the Donbas region in the east of the country, say they are ready to face the offensive of Russian forces.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published images of soldiers defending positions in government-controlled areas of the Donetsk region.
“As I said in 2016, if they violate our territory, then let them come. They will stay here forever. There is enough land here for (burying) everyone. Even if half a meter to enter, there will be no question marks. They will get what they deserve,” said a Ukrainian soldier.
Russia resumed its offensive on Monday to seize control of eastern Ukraine, attacking along a 480-kilometer front. According to officials, this will mark a new stage and possibly a culmination of the war.
The Donbas region of Ukraine is generally industrial and the majority of the population speaks Russian. Moscow-backed separatists have been fighting Ukrainian forces for the past eight years and have declared two independent republics recognized by Russia. Ukrainian soldiers are already preparing for more complex attacks.
“We did not think about aviation. We thought more about artillery, that they would only use artillery. But we also had to learn what air strikes are like,” said a Ukrainian soldier.
In recent weeks, the Kremlin has stated that capturing the Donbas region was the main target of the war, as attempts to seize the capital, Kiev, failed.
After withdrawing from the capital, Russia began to reorganize and reinforce fighting formations in eastern Ukraine for a full offensive.
