The European Union (EU) announced that new sanctions against Belarus will be announced in the coming days.
The statement follows Poland's warning that the number of migrants moving from Belarus towards its border has increased.
Foreign ministers of the 27 EU member states updated the sanctions package against Belarus during their meeting in Brussels.
The sanctions include airlines, travel agents and individuals suspected of being involved in the migrant crisis at Belarus' borders with Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.
These countries form the eastern flank of the European Union and NATO.
The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, told reporters after the meeting that the ministers reached agreement on what will be the fifth round of sanctions, which will be finalized in the coming days and which specifically targets "a fairly significant number" of individuals and entities.
The measures are expected to include asset freezes and travel bans.
"Today's decision reflects the European Union's determination to resist the use of migrants for political purposes," Borrell said.
