The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, is once again at the center of attention for spreading disinformation about the situation in Kosovo. He disinformed about the alleged escalation of violence and that allegedly “Albanians can use the summer vacation of the students of the University of North Mitrovica to attack the north, especially the bridge over the Ibar River”.
Vulin said:
“This year I expect an aggravation in Kosovo by September because I see it in the reactions of Quint (US, UK, Germany, France, Italy) who only threaten Albin Kurti but do nothing.” When that happens, things usually take a dangerous turn. “Now is the ideal time to attack (Kosovo Albanians) in the north,” Vulin said, adding that “the university in North Mitrovica with 8,000 students who always protected the bridge between the southern and northern parts of Mitrovica and prevented attacks in the north are now on summer vacation”.
Analysis:
In order to stir up tensions and fear among the Serbian population, Vulin disinforms that Kosovo Albanians are planning an attack in the north. Such claims are unfounded and devoid of fact.
Similarly, Vulin exaggerates the role of the students in North Mitrovica, portraying them as the main defenders of North Kosovo alongside the constant presence of KFOR, Kosovo Police and EULEX.
The latest work on the bridge over the Iber is routine infrastructure projects and not preparations for an attack or an escalation of the conflict, as Vulin says. This disinformation further contributes to the spread of false information and fuels tensions in the region.
Vulin’s criticism that the QUINT countries “only threaten but do nothing” is another piece of disinformation. In reality, these countries are using diplomatic measures as a first step to prevent conflict and unrest./The Geopost/
