Stefanović: The opposition should have paved the way for the Student List in the face of Vučić's regime

Borko Stefanović, vice president of the Party for Freedom and Justice (SSP), has criticized the decision for the "European Serbia" list to participate in the elections as a separate opposition entity, assessing that the opportunity to support the Student List in confronting the power of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has been lost.

In a reaction published on the social network X, Stefanović said that the "European Serbia" list has missed its last opportunity to act with political responsibility and withdraw from the electoral process in favor of the Student List.

According to him, such an action would enable the support of students in their effort to defeat what he described as the criminal regime of Aleksandar Vučić.

Stefanović has also warned that the consequences for the Party for Freedom and Justice could be serious, as, according to him, the recent decisions jeopardize the party's reputation, its political efforts over the years, and the future of this entity on the Serbian political scene.

He assessed that insisting on running in the elections with a separate opposition list, in the current circumstances and after the failure to unite the entire opposition, constitutes a serious political mistake.

"Insisting on participating in the elections as a separate opposition list, under these circumstances and after the failure to unite the entire opposition, is a serious mistake and a misunderstanding of the social atmosphere and political will of the citizens of Serbia," Stefanović wrote.

His reaction comes at a time when a debate is taking place within the Serbian opposition about how to participate in the elections and the possibility of coordinating political forces against Vučić's government.

Stefanović has withdrawn from the "European Serbia" list, opposing the strategy followed for the electoral race. In his statement, he highlighted the need for the opposition to take into account the political atmosphere and citizens' expectations, instead of competing in a fragmented manner.

The GeoPost

The last opportunity for the European Serbia list to act politically responsibly and honorably and to withdraw from the electoral process in favor of the Student List and its victory over the criminal regime of Aleksandar Vučić was missed.

Unfortunately, the consequences for the Party of Freedom and Justice will be serious because it is gambling with its reputation, people's long-standing struggle and the future of our political option.

To insist on participating in the elections, as a separate opposition list, in these circumstances and after the failure to unify the entire opposition, is a serious mistake and a misunderstanding of the social atmosphere and political will of the citizens of Serbia.

Unfortunately, some people looked at the wrong compass, and there is no justification for that, and any subsequent wisdom or responsibility cannot be comfort to anyone, nor justice. Now that the whole of Serbia is finally flowing into one river of victory and change, every tributary must be poured into it, without calculations.

The only interest is and must be that the Vučić regime collapses and falls on October 25, and that is why we must all go to the polls in as many numbers as possible and support the Student List. It is the greatest historical task of our generation and we must not miss it for the sake of the future of Serbia and all its people.
