“History teaches us that where there are Serbs and Russians, there is also justice. If you do not know where justice and victory are, look for where Serbs and Russians are and you will find justice, truth and victory. The Russian Historical Society was first created outside the borders of the former USSR, outside the borders of the Russian world. It is one of those road signs that reminds us of how important we are to each other and that the closeness between two nations cannot be measured by geographical distance, but exclusively by intimacy, by the values that both nations represent, which make us people, not a crowd,” Vulin said.
As he said, there are many more people than us, but there are few historical peoples greater than us.
“History should be a collection of accurate information about the past, from which everyone draws conclusions and learns as they see fit, as it should be, but it is not that simple. Those who wish to determine our future must first change our past in order to rule our future. Those who want to impose a future on us must first find an excuse for every evil, every evil they have done to us and will do to us by changing the past and finding an excuse in the past for every evil they will do to us,” he said.
As he said, in order to accept their truth for us, we must accept the change of the past.
“In the Russian Historical Society, we consider our main task to be the fight against any revision of history and the preservation of historical truth for the Serbian and Russian peoples,” Vulin emphasized.
“RIO is a meeting point for all those who see Serbia as an independent, free and just country, a country that fights without borders for the peaceful creation of a ‘Serbian world’ because it is a true ally of Russia and China,” Vulin said.
The founding assembly of RIO in Serbia was held with the message that the opening of a branch of the Russian institution is a strong message about the inseparable ties between the two nations.
The assembly began with the national anthems of Serbia, Republika Srpska and Russia, followed by a minute of silence in honor of Nebojša Pavković.
Sergey Naryshkin, President of the Russian Historical Society, addressed the gathering with a video message, saying that the historical ties between Russia and Serbia have a rich and long history.
“They are strengthened by the unity of faith and the closeness of the cultures of our peoples, the fundamental similarities of our traditional values,” said Naryshkin.
He recalled that during the reign of Peter the Great, a large number of Serbs entered the service of the Russian Empire, which significantly contributed to the development of military activity. On the other hand, Russian emigration in the first half of the 20th century enriched the cultural and public life of Belgrade.
“Our nations together maintained victory in the war for Serbia’s independence from the Ottoman Empire, together endured two world wars, and at the end of the 20th century simultaneously survived the collapse of their countries, which was accompanied by bloody conflicts.”
As he points out, it was especially difficult for the former Yugoslavia. “The NATO bloc provoked a civil war in the Balkans and then, in violation of international law, committed acts of aggression and war crimes against Serbia. Our country responded to this,” Naryshkin said.
“The operation, which threatened to escalate into a direct confrontation with NATO forces, was another example of Russia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Serbian people,” Naryshkin said.
Today, he added, Serbia is subject to “extremely strong pressure from Brussels. It is true that the Serbian people are still close to us in spirit. Here in Russia, we greatly appreciate and respect this. We respect the independent path that Belgrade is pursuing. Our strategic partnership is mutually beneficial and continues to bear fruit for both countries.”
The Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Harchenko, assessed that the opening of the Russian Historical Society in Serbia is “an important political and scientific message” and also a foundation for “our further cooperation in the field of historical studies and other areas.”
“The opening of the Historical Society in Serbia is logical,” he stressed, adding that this is related to the common history of “our nations, which is the foundation now and will continue to be so in the future.”
“We expect, wish and hope that the Historical Society will provide a good impetus and stimulus for cooperation in science, education, culture and other areas,” said Ambassador Botsan-Harchenko.
As he emphasized, one of the most important tasks in Russia, as well as in Serbia, is to strengthen the sovereignty and independence of our nations and states, and that without knowledge of historical relations and our history, there can be neither sovereignty nor future.
“This is absolutely clear and a truth that we often repeat, but repetition is the mother of knowledge, the mother of faith in our future,” the Russian ambassador emphasized.
He also mentioned the Russian Geographical Society and said that both societies in Serbia will contribute to the cooperation of our nations and countries.
Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Church said that “we are not here today only to confirm our true friendship and fraternal relations, but to confirm and seal the commitment that our ancestors and predecessors have left us.”
He stressed that the opening of the Russian Historical Society in Serbia represents a confirmation of the unbroken spiritual connection between our two peoples, the Serbian and the Russian, who have lived in harmony and family ties throughout history and who, he added, will continue to do so in the future with God’s help.
He assessed that the opening of such an institution in an era of historical revisionism is “of key importance”.
Historian and one of the founders of the center’s Belgrade branch, Aleksandar Raković, recalled that since the beginning of the “special military operation” in Ukraine, Serbia has been under pressure to impose sanctions against Russia and said that this will not happen.
“Western sanctions do not affect us at all,” he said, recalling that the national airline Air Serbia still flies to Russia, that our clubs play against Russian clubs and that Russian artists visit Serbia./The Geopost/
