US President Donald Trump said he does not believe Iran is ready to reach "the right deal" to end the conflict, adding that Washington is watching "what happens next."
The American leader also said the United States has "full control" of the area around the key Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed since the conflict began in late February.
The interruption of traffic through the strait has been one of the central issues of the conflict and one of the main obstacles to reaching an agreement, as Tehran and Washington have different positions regarding control over this important waterway, Radio Free Europe reported.
Tehran claims full control of the waterway and says it will only open after Washington meets certain conditions.
"They would love to make a deal, but, in my opinion, they are not willing to make the right deal," Trump told reporters when asked if US military options against Iran were limited.
His comments made on August 21 came after Oman said the foreign ministers of Iran and Oman had discussed resuming negotiations on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The two countries have recently held talks on creating a new route that would guarantee safe passage through this strait.
