Five people have been arrested during a police operation conducted as part of war crimes investigations, which are being conducted by the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo in cooperation with the Kosovo Police.
According to the official announcement, the operation is related to the case known as "Reçaku II", while during the action several search warrants were carried out in various locations.
The Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Ilir Morina, has said that the five arrested today from the war crimes action are involved in the commission of the Recak massacre.
In a press conference after the end of the action, Prosecutor Morina said that the action comes after 6 months of investigations since the indictment in the Recak case was filed.
"During the investigations we have conducted over the past six months, we have managed to identify several people who were part of the special units of the Serbian Police at the time and who participated in the action of January 15, 1999 in Recak."
"We have filed a request with the pre-trial judge of the Special Department of the Basic Court in Pristina, where we have requested an arrest warrant and a search warrant. Today in the early hours of the morning, together with the Police, we have arrested five people who are involved in the Recak massacre," said prosecutor Ilir Morina.
The "Reçaku II" case is related to investigations into suspicions of committing war crimes during the conflict in Kosovo.
