"Rogue Gallery", US Congressman: Putin and Mladic are war criminals, Vucic anti-American

Republican US Congressman Joe Wilson has reacted sharply to the funeral of Ratko Mladic, describing the ceremony as a "rogue gallery" of anti-American figures, led, according to him, by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Wilson has drawn a parallel between Mladic and Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing both as war criminals.

"The funeral is a rogues' gallery made up of anti-American Vucic and figures from the Russian regime. The Serbian people deserve better. They deserve the rule of law and free and fair elections," Wilson wrote.

The American congressman's reaction comes after Mladic's funeral ceremony in Serbia, which has caused numerous reactions due to the participation of state officials and the way his figure has been treated in public.

The funeral was also reported by "The New York Times", describing the event with the headline: "Thousands of Serbs Gather to Mourn Ratko Mladic, 'Bosnian Butcher'."

According to the American newspaper's report, the Serbian government has insisted that the funeral was a private matter, despite the fact that it was attended by government ministers and that the ceremony was widely covered by state media.

“The government insisted the funeral was a private matter, even though government ministers attended and state media lavished praise on the convicted war criminal,” The New York Times reported.

Mladic was convicted by international justice for genocide, crimes against humanity and other crimes committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

His funeral in Serbia has revived debates about the glorification of figures convicted of war crimes and Belgrade's relationship with the past wars of the 90s.
