SBIH: We call on Aleksandar Vučić to stop the torture of Bosniaks in Sandžak

The Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (SBIH) has responded to the repression directed against Bosniaks in Sandzak. They claim that this is being carried out by the regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

They emphasize that the attacks on students and citizens of Novi Pazar show that Aleksandar Vučić's regime has not moved on from the 1990s, when Slobodan Milošević used repressive methods to suppress the democratic political struggle of Bosniaks in Sandžak.

“The epilogue of such activities by the Milosevic regime resulted in the unjust arrest, persecution and abuse of dozens of Bosniaks, some of whom unfortunately died as a result of such treatment. Today, Aleksandar Vučić is trying to subjugate Bosniaks, and some are unfortunately helping him with their subjugated policies. The determined youth of Novi Pazar and all free citizens have sent a message that they are ready to defend the freedom, justice and democracy for which they are known,” the SBIH states. They add that Sandžak is historically connected to Bosnia and Herzegovina, as evidenced by all major geopolitical events from the late nineteenth century and throughout the twentieth century.

"The fate of Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their compatriots from Sandzak is quite intertwined, and a greater commitment to all the problems that burden them is necessary. We call on Aleksandar Vučić to stop torturing Bosniaks from Sandzak and to accept the political reality and democratic rights of the citizens of Novi Pazar. Sarajevo should pay more attention to Novi Pazar and Sandzak in the coming period," they emphasize.

They also say that the time has come to overcome some negative practices from the past and establish permanent cooperation and mutual support in the fight against the destructive legacy of the 1990s, which the Vučić regime has inherited.

"The Serbian people, especially the younger generation, have mobilized the entire Serbian society against such policies, and attempts to shift attention from the large protests against Vučić to one country and one people will not succeed," SBIH concluded.
