US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm wrote on Twitter that she spoke with the Minister of Energy of Ukraine after the report of a fire at the Zaporizhzhia power plant. Granholm has announced that it has decided to activate the US Nuclear Incident Response Team.
“Russian military operations near the plant are reckless and must cease,” said Granholm, who oversees the US nuclear arsenal.
“The reactors of the power plant are protected by strong control structures and the reactors are being closed safely,” she wrote.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for urgent help from the European Union.
“Europeans, wake up please. “Tell your politicians that Russian forces are firing on the nuclear power plant in Ukraine,” he said.
Despite the fire, no increase in radioactivity was reported.
