The US military says it has launched new airstrikes against Iran to "swiftly punish" the country's Revolutionary Guard for an attack in Jordan that killed two American service members.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attacks were also designed to further degrade Iran's ability to restrict oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Two American troops were killed while defending against ballistic missile and drone attacks from Iran on Friday, CENTCOM said, reports the Telegraph.
Another is missing and four other service members who were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals were later released, she added.
The latest deaths bring the total number of American soldiers killed during the war to at least 16, with most occurring in the days after the start of US strikes in late February.
Six died when a refueling plane crashed over Iraq in early March, while six others were killed in a drone strike on an operations center in Kuwait.
More than 430 US military personnel have been injured. Deaths in the war are not limited to Americans.
Iranian authorities said at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded in US strikes in the past three weeks, including eight killed in an attack on a bridge on Friday.
People working on ships, as well as foreign and other workers in Gulf countries, Israel and Lebanon have also been killed in the conflict.
