NATO's military capabilities are clearly superior to those of Russia.
This was stated by the top commander of the defense alliance, American General Alexus Grynkewich, to the German news magazine "Der Spiegel".
In an interview published on Friday, Grynkewich said the military capabilities the alliance would deploy in a major conflict "far exceed those of Moscow."
Russia does not possess modern F-35 fighter jets, nor the large number of modern destroyers or submarines that NATO has, he noted, writes Yahoonews, according to Telegraph.
The general expressed confidence that Russia will not launch a large-scale conventional attack on Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is turning to other methods, such as sabotage, as there are no other options, he argued, adding that Putin does not want a direct conflict.
This is thanks to conventional deterrence, he underlined, emphasizing that this deterrence must be maintained, alongside the modernization of armed forces within NATO, the conduct of extensive exercises, and the demonstration of capabilities.
Asked whether it is appropriate to characterize Russia's actions as a "shadow" war, the four-star general told Der Spiegel that the term "hybrid attacks" is too vague.
"We need to call things by their right names: sabotage, arson or terrorist attacks are precise terms that require clear answers," he emphasizes.
Asked if Europe is already at war with Russia, Grynkewich replied that Putin is playing a "dangerous game."
"He wants to convince our people that support for Ukraine is dangerous and that this could lead to a war with Russia."
So far, fortunately, this strategy is not working, the American general thinks.
