Without warning, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic received the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, for a visit, which was also attended by Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.
Vucic said that they discussed economic issues and conducted a joint analysis of global and regional conditions.
“President Dodik and I paid special attention to the infrastructure, road, rail and energy connection between Serbia and Republika Srpska,” Vucic’s Instagram post reads.
Dodik’s unexpected visit to Serbia came at a time when CIA Director William Burns was in the region, where he traveled first to Bosnia and Herzegovina, then to Serbia and finally to Kosovo.
The nationalist president of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina is under US and UK sanctions for his destabilizing actions against the Dayton Agreement and for corruption.
Recently, Dodik has taken provocative actions to separate Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have been condemned by the international community as a breach of peace.
Also, the president of Serbia met today with the Russian ambassador to Belgrade, Aleksandar Bocan-Harchenko, with whom he discussed and sought support for the issue of opening the Ibar Bridge in Kosovo.
He “thanked Russia for its continued diplomatic support for Resolution 1244, but also expressed deep concern about the possible consequences of the opening of the bridge at Ibar in Mitrovica, Kosovo.” “An open and honest conversation with Ambassador Bocan-Harchenko on all issues of interest to Serbia and the Russian Federation, as well as Serbia’s positions in relation to current global geopolitical developments,” Vucic wrote.
Vucic chose the Russian ambassador to speak on the topic of the Ibar Bridge, but this is an internal Kosovo issue and the European Union has called for this topic to be discussed in dialog in Brussels to avoid tensions.
