Serbia continues its propaganda about the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo aimed at fighting financial crime, in this case excluding all currencies except the euro, including the Serbian dinar. A propaganda and disinformation statement was made by the Serbian ambassador to the US, Marko Djuric, who stated in the Serbian medium Tanjug on February 12 that he did not believe that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, had postponed this decision by three months.
Djuric also falsely claimed that schools and hospitals in Serbian settlements could not function.
What did Djuric say?
“In the case of postponing the implementation of the decree of the Central Bank of Kosovo, I do not believe Albin Kurti and that this move until things change on the ground is perceived as another attempt by him to manipulate and ‘get out’ of this situation. In practice, it has been seen that the police forces of the institutions of Pristina, Albin Kurti, have stopped the transport of money that Serbia offers to the Serbian people, and for this reason it has not been possible to supply hospitals, schools and other Serbian institutions”.
Analysis:
In fact, the Central Bank of Kosovo has postponed the decision for three months and has taken a series of relief measures for the Serbian community during the transition phase. With the beginning of the implementation of its new regulation, the CBK had stated that it does not prohibit or limit the acceptance of funds in bank accounts in euros in licensed banks and that it does not limit the exchange activity of any currency carried out by banking or non-banking financial institutions, but which are licensed by it.
CBK, in the framework of its actions for easier implementation of the effects of the regulation on cash operations in certain communities, has notified public opinion about the plan with additional actions which are expected to be implemented in the shortest possible time, but no longer than three (3) months, in cooperation with banks and other financial institutions. Among them is the toll-free line where Serbian citizens can call for questions they have about the new regulation and the easing of conditions for opening bank accounts, in specific cases in municipalities with a Serbian majority, especially in the four northern municipalities, possibly of completing the documents (proof of address) even after opening and activating the account. Expanding the presence with non-banking bank branches for coverage with additional branches and increasing the provision of financial services in the municipalities in the north of the country. Also, CBK has made other facilities during the transition phase.
Likewise, the Kosovo Customs has said that the vehicle with money that came from Serbia did not meet the conditions, as the circulation of money without authorization is not allowed. Therefore, it is proven that Djuric misinformed.
