Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine has managed to liberate more territory during October than it lost to Russian forces, claiming that the Ukrainian army has recaptured 96.2 square kilometers of land.
According to Zelensky, this area is 10.4 square kilometers more than the territory that Russia managed to conquer during the same period.
"Russia is losing. We are holding our positions, liberating territories and ensuring that every day of the war costs the aggressor as much as possible," Zelensky declared on Sunday, foreign media wrote, according to Telegraph.
He called on Russian authorities to end the war through a ceasefire and diplomacy.
"To end these crazy losses, Russia should simply choose a ceasefire and diplomacy," the Ukrainian president said.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military has announced that October was the month with the highest number of losses for Russian forces since the start of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
According to data released by Kiev, Russian forces suffered about 54,400 casualties in October, including soldiers killed and wounded. This is the highest monthly toll reported by the Ukrainian military since the start of the war.
The Ukrainian military claims that the pace of losses of Russian forces is faster than Moscow's ability to recruit new soldiers to replace them.
"Each month of war is becoming more and more costly for Russia's armed forces," the Ukrainian military said in a statement.
However, neither Ukraine nor Russia regularly publish official data on their military losses, while the figures made public by the warring parties cannot be independently verified.
According to Kiev, since the start of the large-scale Russian invasion, Russia has suffered more than 1.5 million casualties, including killed and wounded.
Before October, the month with the highest number of Russian losses was December 2024, when, according to the Ukrainian military, 48,670 soldiers were reported killed and wounded.
October also marked a record for the use of drones by Ukrainian forces. The commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, stated that during the past month a Russian target was neutralized on average every 41 seconds.
According to him, a Russian soldier was eliminated every 159 seconds.
Brovdi announced that drone units under his command killed a total of 16,796 Russian soldiers during October, a figure about 25 percent higher than in September.
