Belgrade analyst explains how Vucic’s rule has promoted violence and anti-Western values in Serbia

The analyst from Belgrade, Srdjan Cvijic, through a reaction on social media, has explained how the power of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has promoted violence and anti-Western values in the country.

According to Cvijic, the media associated with the Serbian government is full of hate speech and promotion of violence.

“Since Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party came to power in 2012, the media associated with the government has been ‘full’ of hate speech and the promotion of violence. This is present through the promotion of anti-Western and nationalist discourse,” Cvijic explained on Twitter.

“This showed especially how vulnerable Serbian citizens are who read and trust the pro-regime media. They are more likely to support some form of ‘offensive militarism’. There are many examples of the culture of violence, how it is promoted and how accessible it is to young people,” he adds.

He tells the case of how Misha Vacic, the leader of the Serbian right, had given a lecture about the battles of the First World War, exactly in the school “Vladislav Ribnikar”, where the murder of 7 students took place.

“Misha Vacic, leader of the Serbian right, satellite of Vucic, was invited in 2018 as a guest of honor to an elementary school as part of a tour that recreated one of the battles of World War I through games. Guess which school that was? Exactly Vladislav Ribnikar, the elementary school where the shooting took place last week,” he says.

Cvijic says the Vucic regime spent taxpayers’ money to fund the tabloids.

“It is interesting that most of the right-wing parties that protested against the Ohrid Agreement, allegedly Vucic’s satellites, will not join all the other opposition parties protesting against the violence,” says Cvijic.

“Vucic’s regime has actively promoted the culture of violence, even spending taxpayers’ money to fund tabloids in the country that are loyal to the regime. “When you add to this the close ties between the Vucic regime and organized crime, as shown by the NY Times, things become clearer,” he claims.

In the end, the Serbian analyst says that Vucic blamed Western culture for the tragedy that happened last week.

“The only thing that officials did, from Vucic to the responsible government ministers, was to deny their responsibility. They blamed video games and Western culture for the tragedy, they proposed ridiculous legal solutions, such as reinstating the death penalty,” he concludes./Telegrafi/
