Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the wedding of the son of Vojislav Šešelj, a convicted war criminal and former Vucic “boss”.
This sparked a reaction in the region and was also reported by the media of the former Yugoslav republics.
For example, Zagreb’s Index reported on a Twitter post by lawyer and President of the Oktobar Association, Cedomir Stojkovic, who said that “it is a disgrace to humanity that the President of Serbia is getting drunk with the criminal Šešelj” and that they were being celebrated with a song glorifying the Chetnik warlord.
“That the shame of humanity @predsednikrs gets drunk together with the criminal Vojislav Šešelj is a simple matter that I have been talking about with foreigners for a long time, pointing out the full equality of both. That he gets drunk with him while listening to a song that glorifies Pavle Đurišić, a Chetnik whose troops committed crimes during the Second World War, then personally allied himself with NDH troops and finally joined forces with the Nazis in Operation Weiss in 1943 to attack our population, is another thing, which anyone who wanted could know. The fact that the song has the primitive melody of the military units that carried out the genocide in Srebrenica is a third thing.
But the fact that the President of Serbia holds wine like beer and shakes his head as if it were brandy while drinking it is a particular disgrace, testifying to the fact that this disgrace of humanity has failed to acquire ANY manners in 11 years in power, even if he has accidentally picked it up from foreigners whom he meets against their will,” wrote Stojkovic, quoted by Index.
Vučić at the wedding, first to Šešelj with songs glorifying the Chetnik voivode,” writes Sarajevo’s Klix portal.
“One of the guests at the wedding of the son of convicted war criminal Vojislav Šešelj was President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić,” Klix quotes Stojković as saying, adding “one thing” from Stojković’s tweet which he “singled out as shameful”.
“But the fact that the President of Serbia holds wine as if it were beer, and shakes his head as if it were brandy while drinking it, is particularly shameful, testifying to the fact that this disgrace of humanity has failed to acquire ANY manners in 11 years in power, even if he happens to pick up from foreigners whom he meets against their will. Sad”.
“In the video from the wedding, Vucic can be seen sitting right next to Šešelj at the table. In one of the shots, Vučić and Šešelj are together, while a song glorifying the Chetnik voivode Pavle Đurišić can be heard in the background”, writes Oslobođenje, quoting Čedomir Stojković.
” Part of the Serbian public condemned this act, including Belgrade lawyer Čedomir Stojković. He said it was a disgrace for humanity that Vucic was getting drunk with a war criminal,” writes Sarajevo’s Oslobođenje.
Slobodna Bosna, on the other hand, writes about the “shame of humanity” and quotes the words of lawyer Stojkovic.
