Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the Albanian Parliament on May 3 via video link, local media in Albania announced on Thursday, April 28.
The address to the Albanian Parliament follows a call that Zelensky made to the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama in the first weeks of the war in Ukraine to thank the latter for the support and contribution of Albania to Ukraine.
Albania has aligned itself with the European Union and NATO, in support of Ukraine, cooperating with allies in imposing sanctions on Russia, and contributing to political coordination in NATO and the UN Security Council to condemn the Russian occupation.
Albanian authorities have also backed a UN General Assembly resolution condemning the Russian attack on Ukraine and have recently launched an initiative to document and investigate war crimes through the UN in this conflict.
Although Albania is not dependent on Russian gas and does not have any significant trade relations with Russia and Ukraine, it has also faced rising prices as a result of the war.
Despite a series of measures taken by the Albanian Government to address the economic consequences and the cost of basic products, including electricity, social discontent has manifested itself in numerous protests throughout Albania, among the poorest countries in Europe.
