The President of Ukraine, Vlodymyr Zelensky, addressed the deputies of the Albanian Parliament on Tuesday, calling for more humanitarian aid and weapons for Ukraine, to face, as he said, the Russian aggression.
The Ukrainian president, speaking via video link, urged Albania to close ports to Russian ships and restrict the arrival of Russian tourists.
“Russian banks must be completely separated from the global financial system. As difficult as it may be, trade with Russia must be deliberately curtailed. I urge you to close the ports for Russian ships, to limit arrivals for Russian tourists … maybe assassins from Bucha or Irpin are coming,” Zelensky said, referring to Ukrainian cities where Russian forces are suspected of committing serious crimes.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for, as he said, the support of Albania and the care for the citizens of Ukraine, who flee the war and take refuge in this country.
“Thank you for the concrete steps for Ukraine, for the defense assistance, for the support against Russia, for the care you give to our children, our people. Your attitude towards the people of Ukraine reminds me of the Albanian St. Teresa, who has become a symbol of humanity around the world,” said Zelensky.
He said his country was facing a “ruthless” war from Russia, which he said was trying to “resurrect a terrible tyranny”.
“We are seeing the Russian army shooting at children. People sheltered in bunkers have begun to rise. In the areas liberated by Russia, people who have been found dead with their hands tied are being buried ” said Zelensky.
Zelensky was greeted with applause by members of the Albanian Parliament, who held banners with the Ukrainian flag and the inscription: “We stand with Ukraine.”
