Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Canada’s Parliament, where he has been greeted by mass applause.
He describes his feelings and those of the Ukrainian people over the past 20 days of Russia’s “full-scale aggression”.
He says: “Imagine at 4am, each of you, you start hearing bomb explosions, severe explosions, can you imagine hearing you, your children, hearing explosions?”
The Ukrainian president adds: “How can you explain to your children that full-scale aggression just happened in your country?”
Zelensky described the current situation in Ukraine, saying “every night is terrible.”
“The Russians are bombarding with all kinds of artillery. They are bombing civilians, they are bombing buildings. Can you imagine that there is a fire that could start in the nuclear power plant? And this is exactly what happened in our country. In every city they are marching and dropping Ukrainian flags. “Can you imagine someone dropping your Canadian flags in Montreal and other Canadian cities?” he said.
Earlier in the day, Canada imposed new sanctions on Russia, including restrictions on 15 Russian officials who facilitated and supported the election of President Vladimir Putin to occupy Ukraine.
