The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, made several threatening statements against Kosovo during a speech to an academy in Serbia.
He said that if the West chose Kosovo over Serbia, Serbia would “wait for the best possible moment and we will take our chance”.
“Be careful if you choose Kosovo instead of Serbia. If they choose Kosovo, Serbia will “wait for the best possible moment and we will take our chance,” the Serbian president said.
The Kosovo government responded to this statement by saying that although Serbia’s threats continue, they should not return to normality.
The government spokesman, Përparim Kryeziu, said that such statements should be strongly condemned by the international factor.
“They cannot be ignored or disregarded or simply regarded as statements for internal consumption.” They must be followed with the utmost vigilance and condemned in the strongest terms by the international community, such as the United States of America, the EU, the United Kingdom, etc. “As a hostage of the past, desperately trying not to turn back time, Vučić dangerously hopes that the methods of the past can one day be the solution for the future,” Kryeziu said.
Meanwhile, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said that Vučić reveals a very important fact that he is the continuation of Milosevic’s mentality, who strives for territories and never cares about the rights and freedoms of the people.
Vučić’s warmongering statement also triggered reactions from others.
A German MP, Michael Roth, wrote that Serbia cannot join the European Union with Vučić at the helm.
“President Vucic has misunderstood something. The prospect of EU membership applies not only to Serbia, but to all Western Balkan states, including Kosovo. There is no “either Serbia or Kosovo”. But Vucic is right, with him at the helm, there is no way for Serbia to join the EU,” Roth wrote in an article on X. /The Geopost/
