Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has invited schoolchildren from the Zvečan village of Zerovnica to Belgrade to use them for his election campaign. Vucic spoke to the children about his nationalist policy of not giving up Kosovo.
Vucic was told that they would help “their country, Serbia” in the future and that Serbia was their only country.
Vucic used this event to speak out against the Westerners and said he would respond by rejecting the agreement with Kosovo, which he had accepted internationally.
“They are waiting for their moment to push us to the end, and we are waiting for our moment to withstand the pressure,” he said in response to a journalist’s question.
After welcoming the children from Kosovo, Vucic said to the journalists and the public: “We are playing with gloves in front of you, because we all have to be civilized and level-headed.”
“Basically, their goal is to force us and bring us into a legal framework in which we recognize Kosovo’s independence in one way or another.” “The decisive factor is whether we leave them in the UN or not, and we will not let them,” Vucic said.
Asked if he would sign something, Vucic replied: “You are asking me now that the campaign has started to say I won’t sign it, but I’ve said it many times already,” he said about the Ohrid Agreement.
Kosovo is being used as a card in Serbia’s election campaign to garner as many votes as possible and deepen inter-ethnic divisions.
Most of the parties competing in their policies are promoting Kosovo as Serbia and promising that they will push for this during their time in government.
