Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was afraid to applaud the emotional and powerful speech by the wife of Alexei Navalny, who died in prison under Vladimir Putin’s regime.
Yulia Navalny was given the opportunity to speak at the Security Conference in Munich immediately after the death of the Putin opponent became known. She was courageous in her speech and fearlessly pointed the finger at Putin over the death of her husband in a prison north of Moscow.
“I want Putin and his entire circle to know that they will be held accountable for everything they have done to our country and to my family.” And that day will come very soon,” she said.
Everyone applauded this speech as a sign of support for what she was going through, but Putin’s ally also showed support for her in this case. Vucic was sitting in the front row of the audience.
Then Vučić spoke in Serbia about this incident and gave an excuse that he had not recognized her at first.
“Suddenly a woman sits next to me and I had no idea who she was,” Vučić said.
He also revealed the real reason why he did not applaud her, saying that he feared he would declare Putin a murderer.
“They would have said Vučić would have declared Putin a murderer if I had applauded the part that Putin killed,” Vučić said.
Vučić said he goes to international meetings to fight for his country, adding that he expects “there will be more pressure on Serbia to impose sanctions against Russia”.
Serbia has good relations with Russia and despite the demands of the international factor to impose sanctions against Moscow because of the war in Ukraine, Belgrade refused to impose sanctions against Russia.
“I’m no smarter than anyone else in the world who knows everything in advance. That belongs to political analysts, but not to a president. But the position is becoming more difficult for us, I have no doubt about that,” said Vučić.
Navalny’s family accuses Russia of hiding his body by not even allowing his mother to see him.
Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has died in prison. Although Navalny was behind bars on charges widely seen as politically motivated, he repeatedly spoke out against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine. For more than a decade, Navalny led anti-corruption investigations and political protests and ran for public office. He was imprisoned upon his return to Moscow in 2021 after recovering in Berlin, where he was hospitalized for poisoning with a military-grade nerve agent. Alexei Navalny was 47 years old /TheGeopost
