Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has declared that he will not run for the next presidential election in Serbia, claiming that he is “not a dictator”.
Vucic made these statements on Wednesday at a press conference, after a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoker, Serbian media reported.
“I am a political veteran, I can no longer run for president”, he said.
But it was not long before Vucic’s supporters in Novi Sad, Serbia, fired fireworks at citizens on Wednesday evening. The attacks came from the direction of the SNS premises, as seen in several videos published on social networks.
Torches were also thrown there and gunshots were heard.
The protests in Serbia began after the collapse of a train station roof on November 1, 2024 in Novi Sad.
In addition to Novi Sad, citizens gathered in Belgrade, Niš, Kragujevac, Subotica, Šabac, Leskovac, Sombor, Pancevo and Valjevo on Wednesday.
We recall that the day before, on Tuesday, supporters of Aleksandar Vučić attacked protesters with fireworks, stones, bottles and keys. A similar attack also occurred in Bačka Palanka.
