Tonight, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, presented the position of Serbia on the issue of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He said that the current interest of Serbia is not to impose sanctions on Russia, and added that Serbia is committed to respecting international law, which guarantees the right to inviolability of Ukraine’s borders.
He stated at the press conference that “Serbia sincerely regrets everything that is happening in Eastern Europe” and added that Serbia considers both Russians and Ukrainians to be fraternal peoples.
“Serbia provides full support for respecting the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Vucic said, adding that he considered it a violation of this principle to be wrong.
Vucic stated that Serbia respects the norms of international public law and added that this is the best way to protect itself and its interests, but also to respect traditional friendships. He stated that the current interest of Serbia is not to impose sanctions on Russia, as well as that Serbia will be guided exclusively by its own interests when considering requests for sanctions against Russia.
