Vucic and his brother at the center of corruption suspicions, accusations that communications are being kept hidden

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his brother Andrej are appearing again in new SKY communications, where they are suspected of high-level corruption and influence over justice in favor of criminal groups. SKY packages, coming from Europol in Serbia, talk about connections between Darko Saric’s drug cartel and government figures, while the Serbian Ministry of Interior is being accused of hiding evidence and not handing it over to the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, writes Radar, transmits KosovaPress. Meanwhile, the government is pushing for legal changes that could neutralize this prosecutor’s office before an investigation is opened that could affect the Vucic brothers themselves.
The pressure of the authorities on the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office (TOK) in Serbia has reached a critical point, while in parallel with the media campaign against it, institutional intervention is being prepared to remove its independence and subordinate it to the High Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.
One of the main reasons for the acceleration of this process is a new package of communications from the SKY platform, received by the Serbian Ministry of Interior from Europol – documents that, according to Radar’s sources, contain suspicions of high-level corruption and directly mention President Aleksandar Vučić and his brother, Andrej Vučić.
What is considered even more problematic is the fact that the Serbian Ministry of Interior has not yet submitted this package to the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, which has raised suspicions about an attempt to keep the information out of the justice system.
According to the documents leaked so far, which are already part of court proceedings in various countries in the region, the SKY communications of Serbian criminal groups mention Aleksandar Vučić, nicknamed “Oskar”, his brother Andrej Vučić, former interior minister Nebojša Stefanović (“Edo”), and Serbian BIA official Marko Parezanović (“Markus”).
Sources from the investigation indicate that in the conversations of Darko Šarić’s group, the idea is conveyed that “judicial decisions can only be influenced through Oskar”, while the communications talk about a meeting at the BIA attended by persons from high-ranking justice and intelligence structures.
The brother of the prisoner Darko Šarić, Duško Šarić, wrote in a message dated May 26, 2020:
“The only real way is through Markus to Oskar. Only he can solve this problem… No one else can,” referring to Aleksandar Vučić, now known to the public by his nickname Oskar.
In another communication, published by the Montenegrin media outlet Vijesti, the suspected criminal Petar Lazović directly speaks of Vučić with insults and then, indicatively, some of their wishes—including the overturning of Šarić’s convictions—are realized in Serbian courts.
The new SKY documents, which the Serbian Interior Ministry is currently not handing over to TOK, are related to high-level corruption and the use of state institutions to protect criminal networks. According to sources, the new communications again mention the names of Aleksandar and Andrej Vučić, creating extraordinary pressure on the country’s justice structures.
A series of court decisions—overturning Šarić’s previous convictions, removing judge Milimir Lukić from the case, and releasing the criminal from prison to house arrest—are seen by legal experts as synchronized with the interests of the criminal network and a part of the political power.
Sources within the Prosecution and police claim that there is a real fear that TOK could take action against high-ranking figures if the new SKY package is included in the investigations. Precisely for this reason, the government has initiated procedures to amend the law, with the aim of transforming TOK into an ordinary department under the Belgrade High Prosecutor’s Office. If this happens, according to experts, any investigation involving high-ranking political figures—including the Vučić brothers—could be stopped before it even begins.
