Beograd 22.10.2025. Požar ispred skupštine, ćacilend gori
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić proved once again today in an extraordinary press conference that he is not only the president of Serbia, but also a “judge,” “prosecutor,” “doctor,” “police inspector,” and “teacher” (he once again lectured journalists because laughter could be heard).
Let us recall that this morning, in the improvised tent settlement “Ćacilend” in the center of Belgrade in front of the Serbian parliament building, where government supporters have been “living” for several months, a fire broke out in a tent and a shot was fired, injuring one person.
Vučić’s media had prepared the ground for a supposed “terrorist incident in Belgrade.”
The word terrorism has been used frequently by the regime over the past year to label all those who have been protesting against the government for months.
Vučić recklessly described today’s incident in Ćacilend as a “terrible terrorist attack” without clear evidence, stating that this was his assessment, but that the “authorities” would evaluate it. It should also be noted that Minister of Justice Nenad Vučić and Police Director Dragan Vasiljević were also present at the press conference but did not say a word about the case, even though they, especially the police director, would be much more inclined to talk about it.
Why is it a terrorist attack, he asked, and answered: “Because a firearm was used with a clear political motive.” He said, presciently and prophetically, that there would be “interesting things in the investigation.” The political motive, he said, “is clear to me.”
At the conference, a video was shown of the arrest of the 70-year-old attacker, who is lying face down on the asphalt in handcuffs, answering the police officer’s questions. He said he lived in the city center, that the tents in the city center bothered him, that the fire had been caused by gasoline, and that he had “wanted to kill himself.”
Vučić knew everything about the injured man and what kind of person he was. He said he had been brave and knew who his daughter was because she was one of those “who want to study.” As a doctor, Vučić suggested that the injured man might have had internal bleeding. He apologized to the injured man for the “failure of the state to protect him.”
He said it was “a matter of time before something like this happened” and explained that he had been “called countless times about this,” that “aggression was being perpetrated against students who want to study and have occupied a place in the city.” He was referring to this very tent settlement, where young people are rarely seen and suspicious-looking people and older people are more common.
He said that “the blockaders occupy thousands of places every day,” that they had created a “mixture of pigs” at the universities, and that they were “spreading terror with posters of red fists.”
When asked by a journalist whether “Ćacilend” would be removed from the city center, he replied: “That is shameless and insolent of you (in relation to your question), so I will not answer you.”
Finally, he said the incident had caused anger among government supporters.
“I have heard that those who are against the blockades are planning various rallies. Please do not do so.”
The attacker, he said, and his accomplices, if any, would be severely punished. He stated that “this country needs peace and stability” and that the state would manage to maintain peace and stability./The Geopost/
