US Embassy in Sarajevo: History will judge harshly those who put Russia’s interests above those of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has reacted strongly to the latest statements by the Russian Embassy in BiH following the Energy Security Meeting.

“The Russian Embassy’s announcement should not come as a surprise, coming as it does from a country that launched an illegal and unprovoked attack on Ukraine. This is not the first time that the Russian embassy has threatened Bosnia and Herzegovina. These threats concretely demonstrate Russia’s malignancy They clearly show how much Russia fears losing its monopoly on gas supplies to BiH, as well as the possibility of exerting political and economic pressure on BiH,” the embassy said.

The US Embassy thanked the Russian Embassy for, it said, “making clear to the citizens of BiH and its political parties the cynical nature of the alleged ‘friendship’ with BiH”.

“The question before the Government and Parliament of the Federation of BiH is whether they are ready to act to protect BiH from Russian malign influence by adopting the Law on the Southern Interconnection, which was passed by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the RS. The decision is theirs to make, and history will judge those who put the interests of Russia above the interests of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the Embassy stressed.

Finally, they said that the United States remains committed to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
