Washington and Brussels should act more decisively against Belgrade’s plan for regional domination in the Western Balkans and strengthen the independence of all Serbia’s neighbors, Janusz Bugajski, an expert on Balkan affairs, estimates in an editorial for The Geopost. Therefore, he emphasizes that the main loser will be Russia and this will undermine the position of all regimes that consider Moscow an ally.
The loss of Russia, he writes, will weaken China’s anti-Western ambitions and isolate the regimes in Iran, Serbia, Syria and Belarus.
“In order to undermine the US leadership role in the independence bloc, Moscow is promoting regional conflicts. It uses proxies and collaborators such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime to carry out terrorist attacks and instigate wars in the Middle East. It encourages the Vucic regime and its collaborators in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro to destabilize independent governments and cause problems for Washington in the Western Balkans. And it supports North Korea in its threatening nuclear posture towards South Korea and Japan,” he writes.
The expert on Balkan affairs believes that the US has a chance of achieving a historic victory over Russia, America’s perennial adversary, without a single American soldier being killed.
“To achieve such a decisive triumph, Washington must provide Ukraine with all the firepower it needs to defeat the Russian invaders.” The entire military infrastructure in Russia, including transportation, energy and military industry, is now a legitimate target as Moscow has created a war economy. Russia’s defeat in Ukraine will help ensure Europe’s security by reducing Moscow’s military capabilities and solidifying the independence of all its neighbors. Russia’s defeat will also send a strong signal to Beijing not to underestimate the West’s capabilities and political resolve by attacking Taiwan. “It will weaken China’s anti-Western ambitions, isolate regimes in Iran, Serbia, Syria, Belarus and other proxy states, and encourage democratic forces to overthrow failed dictators,” he says.
