Ukraine’s ambassador to Serbia, Volodymyr Tolkac, has spoken openly about the help Serbia is offering to Russia to kill Ukrainians in its aggression that started in February of last year.
He said that Russia supplies missiles and drones targeting Ukrainians through Serbian companies. Tolkac called on Serbia to join Western countries in imposing sanctions on Russia.
Tolkac said Serbia expresses support for Ukraine, but conducts active political dialogue and economic cooperation with the aggressor country and has not yet joined the imposition of sanctions against the aggressor state.
“Information appears in the Serbian press about Serbian private companies helping the Russian aggressor to evade sanctions by supplying parts for missiles and drones that kill Ukrainians. Therefore, we once again call on the EU candidate country Serbia to change its foreign policy, especially with regard to the aggression of the Russian Federation towards the other candidate country, Ukraine. This policy is in line with the position of the common European family. “I am convinced that any practical step taken by the Serbian side to support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression will be a strong argument for the protection of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Tolkac said.
The Ukrainian ambassador said that it is natural that there are voices that support the independence of Kosovo.
“It is no secret that there is a certain number of deputies in the Ukrainian parliament who support the idea of possible recognition. After all, they listen to their voters. As a democratic state that respects freedom of expression, Ukraine cannot restrict the free expression of other opinions of politicians, professionals or the public. “Given Russia’s all-out aggression against Ukraine, the issue of public and unequivocal condemnation of Russian crimes in Ukraine and provision of practical assistance in the fight against the enemy is particularly sensitive for us,” the Ukrainian ambassador said.
“It is crucial for the Ukrainian people to defend their freedom and independence from unprovoked Russian aggression.” Today, hundreds of Ukrainians were killed and thousands seriously injured by the Russian occupiers. Ukrainian society, which pays a high price for its freedom, knows that a neutral position towards the aggressor state in practice helps the aggressor to commit its crimes instead of practically supporting the norms of international law – the territorial integrity of Ukraine. In this context, we must recognize the clear position of the leaders of Kosovo regarding the condemnation of Russian aggression against Ukraine, in particular, regarding the participation in the sanctions against the aggressor,” he said.
It has been reported several times about the assistance provided by Serbia to Russia in the field of military equipment, which Russia then uses during the aggression against Ukraine.
Recently, it was reported that some Serbian companies established by Russian citizens are being used to circumvent the sanctions imposed by the EU and the U.S. against Russia and buy components for the production of weapons and military equipment, report specialized media Balkan Security Network.
Russia is trying by all means to supply its military industry with components of foreign production, which is now a problem due to the sanctions, and therefore resorts to tricks and purchases through third countries, including Serbia./The Geopost/
