Anatoly Chubais, the architect of post-Soviet Russia economic reforms, has resigned as special envoy to the Kremlin and left the country.
Chubais, who once served as former President Boris Yeltsin’s chief of staff, has resigned as Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for relations with international organizations, Reuters reports.
He was appointed to the post, which was charged with “achieving the goals of sustainable development”, in 2020, days after resigning as head of state-owned technology firm RUSNANO, which he has run since 2008.
Many Russians blame Chubais for allowing a small group of tycoons to get rich in the privatizations of the 1990s, while millions of Russians remained in poverty amid the economic collapse and crisis.
