Forming a post-election coalition to lead a new stable government in Montenegro will be difficult, and the country’s stay on the European path will depend on several factors, says Ivana Stradner, a Research Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington.
On Western interest in Montenegro’s new government, Stradner told in an interview with Radio Free Europe (RFE/ RL) that Washington currently views the Western Balkans through the prism of the war in Ukraine, and that their aim is to prevent Moscow from destabilising it.
She also believes that serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is comfortable with an unstable Montenegro, so that through the Serbian Orthodox Church he can escalate then calms down the situation, thus positioning himself as a regional mediator in the eyes of the West.
These extraordinary parliamentary elections are among the most important elections in Montenegro in recent years and this train should not be missed, says Stradner./RSE/
