European Union spokesman Peter Stano expects EU candidate countries, as well as Serbia, to align with EU decisions and positions on foreign and security policy issues.
He noted that the EU sanctions are a response to a serious violation of international law and aggression against Ukraine, and added that the civilized and democratic world must face the greatest threat to European stability since World War II. .
Stano called on all like-minded people and allies to join the effort to respect international law and to reject the illegal actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“In these times of temptation, we need to see solidarity and determination, especially from European countries and our close partners, to show their solidarity, their commitment to international rule and the protection of democracy,” Stano said.
According to him, it is not just about Ukraine, but about stability in Europe.
“Not just the EU, but Europe as a continent – that means security and stability for every country,” Stano noted.
Recall that Serbia is one of the EU candidates that has not yet imposed sanctions on Russia. Last week, several thousand Serb citizens protested in support of Russian aggression, and only a few days later a mural with the image of Vladimir Putin appeared, with the words “brother” written in large letters. The Serbian president did not condemn the protests, nor the painted mural.
