Moscow prosecutors said Wednesday it has issued an arrest warrant for the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest Jamala, which has Tatar roots from Crimea, on charges of spreading “false” information about the involvement of Russia’s Armed Forces in the invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Russia’s Interior Ministry placed the singer, whose real name is Susana Dzhamaladinova, on the wanted list.

She has repeatedly raised her voice against Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and against Russian armed aggression in Ukraine.
Russian prosecutors claimed Jamala was motivated by her “national hatred” of the Russian military and would be held in custody if she set foot in Russia.
Jamala won Eurovision in 2016 with her song “1944” about the Soviet expulsion of ethnic Tatars from her native Crimea, sparking outrage from Russian politicians.
In 2023, Jamala recorded an album titled “Crimea”, in which she collected ancient songs about her people.
In April 2022, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs put him on the list of Ukrainian artists banned from entering Russia for 50 years.
The Kremlin often makes such accusations against those who share details about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that contradict its official line.
Jamala has been an outspoken critic of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Jamala, who is currently in Australia, responded to the news of her recording on November 20 by posting a photo of herself outside the Sydney Opera House.
