
The Serbian government today approved the payment of a grant of 300 thousand dinars (2558.90 euros) to those arrested in Kosovo on suspicion of having committed crimes during the 1998-1999 conflict against Albanians, reports Danas.
Serbia says it is allocating this financial assistance to those arrested for “fabricated, deliberately initiated criminal proceedings, political persecution”.
“The Serbian government has approved a Conclusion on the payment of this one-time financial assistance to persons in prisons and detention by the authorities in Pristina in Kosovo”, the statement reads.
“The assistance is dedicated to those against whom a fabricated criminal procedure is being conducted for suspected crimes committed during the armed conflicts of 1998-1999 against Albanians in Kosovo, as well as in other fabricated criminal procedures initiated for the purpose of political persecution”.
It is also stated that “in this way, one-time financial assistance in the amount of 300 thousand dinars will be provided for persons who are for these reasons in prisons and detention units in Kosovo, according to the evidence”.
The payment of this one-time assistance will be made “as soon as possible”, the announcement states.
