On the 23rd anniversary of the NATO bombing of targets of the Serbian army and other armed forces, which began on March 24, 1999 in order to prevent the Serb genocide against Kosovo Albanians, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a fake photo on their twitter account.
One of the iconic photographs of the Baghdad bombing, taken by Frenchman Olivier Curet on March 20, 2003, was used by the Serbian Foreign Ministry as a photograph of the 1999 NATO bombing.
Even the Serbian media have illustrated their articles full of poison with this photo.
Kosovo-Online in the article titled “March 24, the day when the terror of the NATO pact in the FRY began”, took the picture of the bombing in Iraq to illustrate the article, same as the Serbian Foreign Ministry did.
Security expert Agim Musliu told KosovaPress that all this is done from a center in Belgrade and shows that Serbian propaganda is synchronized and that independent media are few.
“Apart from the fact that official Belgrade is used with false data to achieve its goals, taking a picture of the war in Iraq and its reflection that it is somewhere in Serbia, shows that the media in the service of Vucic’s government and also Serbian MFA are guided by a single command-propaganda point”, said Musliu.
He further expressed his conviction that this model of propaganda originates from Moscow.
“Especially in recent years, we have witnessed that Russian propaganda has used fake news. “We have seen the case when the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs used the photo of Sherife Luta – an Albanian refugee persecuted by Serbian paramilitaries, whom they tried to turn into a Serbian woman,” Musliu added.
According to him, the intentions of the Serbs and Russians are evident, and the main goal is the emergence of NATO as an aggressor.
“Today, when Russia carries out military aggression in Ukraine, then threatens NATO, it is very clear that they want to tarnish the image of NATO. Therefore, their well-known form is portraying NATO as aggressive and terrorist. The Russians, respectively the Serbs, are trying to attribute the terror that they commit and have committed themselves to NATO, the USA and us Albanians. “Based on this propaganda, a Special Court has been established that is judging the KLA leaders, fabricating “yellow” houses”, said Musliu.
Regarding the manipulations of this photo, the cyber security expert Mentor Hoxhaj also reacted in the morning.
In a Facebook post by Hoxhaj, he wrote: “Media Kosovo-Online distributes FAKE NEWS based on false photos and inaccurate and unfounded data to present Serbia as a victim with great consequences for civilians. Kosovo-Online uses the photo of the Bombing of Iraq to ‘illustrate the bombing of Serbia’, all this to achieve the ‘effect’ that the bombing has been ‘terrible with great consequences on civilians’! It is not true that 2,500 civilian casualties were recorded in the NATO bombing. Human Rights Watch in the report “CIVILIAN DEATHS IN THE NATO AIR CAMPAIGN” lists no more than 522 victims from the bombings, including Albanian victims (such as the bombing of Dubrava Prison) ./ Kosovapress
