The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia, Milan Mojsilovic, met with the Defense Attaché of the Russian Federation, Gennady Mozhayev, in Belgrade on Wednesday. Mojsilovic said that the Serbian Armed Forces are “open to all forms of cooperation to maintain peace and stability”, adding that compliance with international law and applicable agreements is the best way to prevent and end conflicts on the continent and worldwide.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Milan Mojsilovic, said at a meeting with the Defense Attaché of the Russian Federation in Belgrade, Ghenadi Mozhajev, that the Serbian army is ready for any form of cooperation with Russia, according to a statement by the press office of the Serbian Ministry of Defense.
“Both sides exchanged views and opinions on security in the region and the world as a whole, as well as on [bilateral] cooperation opportunities in the field of defense,” the statement continued.
Serbia has not imposed sanctions against Russia for its military aggression in Ukraine, even though it has officially declared that it is a candidate country for the European Union. It has ignored all warnings from the West and is the only country in Europe, apart from Belarus, that has refused to impose sanctions on Russia due to its traditional ties. It is also the only European country that continues to sign cooperation agreements with Moscow.
In February this year, Serbia received another arms shipment from its ally Russia. Serbian populist President Aleksandar Vucic then unveiled a Russian electronic anti-drone jamming system called Repellent, which he recently said “is in our hands”. The bulk of Serbia’s recent military build-up has come from Russia. Other materials come from China and some European arms and aircraft manufacturers.
Most of Vucic’s threatening statements are directed against Kosovo. He also engages in divisive rhetoric against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the nationalist president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, who is supported by Vučić and the Serbian Orthodox Church, is constantly trying to disrupt stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region and undermine the Dayton Agreement. /TheGeopost/
