“Serbia is obstructing the dialogue”, Hyland: Kosovo should be part of NATO

Serbia is hindering progress in the dialogue with Kosovo, even though Kosovo should become part of NATO. This was stated by Christopher Hyland, a supporter of the Albanian cause in the United States of America (USA), on Friday before the media in Pristina.

Hyland made these statements after a meeting with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, reports The Geopost.

I think the United States should give a mature democracy, especially Kosovo, the opportunity to work toward an agreement with Serbia as much as possible. But one thing is certain: Serbia is constantly blocking this progress because it benefits enormously when there is no progress. It receives many rewards from the European Union, from Russia, from China, from all the powers. It is very important to understand that. As long as Serbia maintains this division, there will be no progress, but there will be advantages for Serbia. Kosovo will and should be an important part of NATO,” he said.

Serbia is not implementing the Brussels Agreement and the Annex to the Ohrid Agreement of 2023. Kosovo accuses Serbia of obstructing the implementation process and supporting illegal structures in the north of the country. Serbia criticizes Kosovo for its alleged refusal to establish the Association of Serbian Municipalities.

Despite pressure from the European Union and the United States, both sides show little political will to take concrete steps to implement the agreed commitments, especially after the terrorist attack in Banjska Zvečan, in which police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
