On December 5, 2023, the Embassy of Ukraine in Serbia sent an official protest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, explaining the request to terminate the activities of the representative office “The Other Ukraine”.
As the Ukrainian Embassy informed, the request was made on the basis of the provisions of Article 29 of the Law of RS on Commercial Companies, which does not allow the use of the state name in the official name of a legal entity without the permission of the foreign state in question, writes Danas, reports The Geopost.
In 2023, the representative office “The Other Ukraine” was established in Serbia, whose official founder is the godfather of Russian President Vladimir Putin – Viktor Medvedchuk, and whose legal representative in Serbia is Dragan Stanojevic, a businessman from Ukraine and a deputy on the list “We – Voice of the People” Branimir Nestorović.
“In addition to the legal aspect, there is also a political aspect”
The Embassy of Ukraine explains to the Serbian newspaper Danas that the removal of this representation is currently a legal matter, but emphasizes that this matter also has a political aspect.
“It is sad to note that the efforts of some political forces to implement an anti-Ukrainian scenario are continuing here in order to promote the spread of dirty provocations by the godfather of the international criminal Putin,” a statement from the Ukrainian embassy said.
It was particularly unpleasant to talk about this “at a time when Ukraine is trying to consolidate the efforts of the international community to create a platform for the restoration of the world legal order and peaceful coexistence, which has been called the ‘Formula of peace’.
The Embassy of Ukraine said that the representation of the Russian movement does not represent the interests of Ukraine, but aims to carry out anti-Ukrainian activities on the territory of Serbia, aimed at the destruction of the Ukrainian people and Ukraine as an independent state.
A few years ago, Ukraine shut down an organization that supposedly protected the interests of Serbs in Ukraine, but in reality supported Russia.
While pro-Ukraine marches broke out in the Western democratic world, the opposite happened in Serbia. On the streets of Belgrade and other Serbian cities, Vladimir Putin was praised for the war he is waging in Ukraine.
Moreover, Russian activists against the war in Ukraine were persecuted by the Serbian regime and some were even beaten by nationalists.
