Serbia was the only country to vote against the adoption of the joint declaration by the region’s heads of state and government at the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) summit.
The SEECP summit took place on Monday in Tirana under the chairmanship of President Bajram Begaj with the participation of the region’s heads of state and government.
Begaj said that Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina had not voted on the final document.
Their opposition relates to the inclusion in the text of a statement condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the reference to NATO as an alliance contributing to Euro-Atlantic security.
“The joint declaration, the Tirana Document, was adopted by the majority of SEECP member states. Serbia and Bosnia have chosen not to endorse it, which is their sovereign right. However, we have agreed with Kosovo on an additional statement emphasizing that the sanctions imposed on the country are unjust and should be lifted as soon as possible, as they are not punishing politicians but the citizens of Kosovo,” he said.
