Controversial investor and businessman Rados Petrovic, known for his close ties to Belgrade politics and the awarding of lucrative public contracts in North Mitrovica, is facing trial. The building inspectorate in Kragujevac has brought charges against his company, RP Invest 1980.
The company made headlines after a retaining wall and part of a road collapsed at its construction site near the competence center, even though construction work was officially prohibited there.
The authorities confirmed that the construction site had been closed since November 21 due to unauthorized construction work. Nevertheless, the work continued in defiance of the building inspectorate’s order.
In addition to questionable construction practices, Petrovic and his company are linked to dozens of multi-million dollar projects in northern Kosovo municipalities, financed by Serbian state funds. Although RP Invest 1980 is officially registered to Jelena Petrovic, NIN magazine has been reporting for years that the company is actually run by her husband, Rados Petrovic. He is linked to several construction companies, including RP Euro Invest, and other firms that have dominated public tenders in North Mitrovica and Serbia.
Through projects in northern Kosovo alone, these companies are said to have built over 1,000 residential units and won major contracts, including housing complexes for Serbian returnees, road infrastructure, and public facilities. These projects have made RP Invest one of the preferred companies in the areas controlled by Belgrade, according to Serbian media reports.
The company’s financial growth was equally extraordinary: from just 11 million dinars in its first year of registration in Serbia, it achieved a turnover of over 1.86 billion dinars in 2024, raising doubts about the methods and sources of this rapid expansion.
In addition, Rados Petrovic has been repeatedly mentioned in connection with sensitive political and security events in northern Kosovo. In footage released by the media in May 2023 showing the attack by KFOR troops in Zvecan, he was seen among those present. This reinforced doubts about his role and his connections to organized structures in north Kosovo.
