Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was involved in the Sarajevo sniper killings during the Bosnia and Herzegovina war, according to Croatian investigative journalist Domagoj Margetić.
In an interview for “Balkan Talks” on Euronews Albania, in which he discussed his latest investigative article on the subject, Margetić explained that his research included evidence and documents proving Vučić’s involvement in a Serbian paramilitary unit operating near Sarajevo.
According to Margetić, this paramilitary unit, led by Mirko Blagojević, had special permits from the Serbian institutions at the time.
Vučić accompanied the so-called “clients” and carried an identification badge from the Serbian secret service.
“Near Sarajevo, they were led by members of a paramilitary unit. I found out that Vučić was one of the escorts of the ‘clients’ and carried Serbian secret service ID cards. Mirko Blagojević testified that Vučić had made their movement possible,” Margetić said.
He also announced that the information gathered came from former members of the Serbian paramilitary forces and soldiers who were on duty at the time.
“This ‘safari’ was led by Slavko Aleksić, and Vučić was part of the unit,” he said, emphasizing that his report did not accuse Serbian citizens, but individuals who were involved in illegal activities.
Margetic’s statements sparked numerous reactions in the region and drew renewed attention to the paramilitary activities during the siege of Sarajevo and the role of those responsible for the war events at the time.
Serbian lawyer Čedomir Stojković has written about the worldwide media reports on the “sniper safari” and has also filed a lawsuit against Vučić in this context.
According to reports, the so-called “sniper safari” was organized by the notorious units of Serbian criminals Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić during the siege of Sarajevo from 1992 to 1996 for the sole purpose of killing for pleasure. An Italian prosecutor has launched an investigation into this matter.
Stojkovic published recordings of Aleksandar Vučić from that period, showing him with a rifle or sniper rifle in the hills from which sniper fire killed civilians in Sarajevo. /TheGeopost
