The Kosovo Special Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against the two defendants Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi at the Basic Court in Pristina on Thursday. It is reported that the network of collaborators of the Serbian secret service (BIA) is much larger.
Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi, who are suspected of collaborating with the Serbian BIA, were arrested in 2024. The statement from the Special Prosecutor’s Office states that there is reasonable suspicion that Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi committed the crime of “espionage”.
“In the case of the two defendants B.Sh and M.Q., there are reasonable grounds to suspect that each of them individually committed the criminal offense of ‘espionage’ under Article 124(3) of the Criminal Code, while the defendant M.Q. also committed the criminal offense of ‘Unauthorized possession, control or possession of weapons’ under Article 366(3).” 1 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo,” a statement from the prosecutor’s office said.
It was announced that the prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor’s Office has proposed to the court to find them guilty and convict them after the judicial review and taking of evidence in accordance with the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
“In addition, the prosecutor in this case has requested the court to extend the pre-trial detention of the defendants until the completion of the judicial review, as the legal conditions for the continuation of such a measure still exist,” the statement from the prosecutor’s office reads.
