Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union until 1991 when the state in which the October Red Revolution took place disintegrated.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Ukrainians and Russians are one people, while the leaders of the Ukrainian state, according to Putin, are leading an “anti-Russian” project.
These two states have had conflict before. In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea – Ukrainian region until that year.
US President Joseph Biden has said that if Russia attacks Ukraine, there will be major sanctions, but that the United States will not be involved militarily in this conflict.
The North Atlantic Alliance – NATO, in recent months has consistently made efforts to reach an agreement in order to prevent armed conflict. Even after all the attempts, peace negotiations did not have an impact.
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the US Secretary of State to discuss the fate of Ukraine.
Lavrov said that the meeting ended by agreeing with Blinken that in a week Russia will receive a written response to the proposals that Russia has made.
