The NATO-Russia Council met yesterday for the first time since 2019.
At this stage, the dialogue is considered very important due to the situation created in Ukraine by Russian aggression.
Russia must take responsibility for these actions, which could lead to an escalation of the situation.
Regarding the meeting, the U.S. Mission to NATO also reacted, through a post on their official page on the social network “Facebook”.
Through this post, they stressed the importance of the Council meeting and reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to dialogue and preventing a possible escalation of the situation in Ukraine.
“The NATO-Russia Council met yesterday for the first time since 2019. This format is an important platform for dialogue, especially when tensions are high as a result of Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine. During talks with Russian counterparts, NATO Allies underscored that NATO remains committed to our dual-track approach of dialogue and deterrence. We will keep our defenses strong, standing united to deter further aggression, while remaining open to meaningful dialogue and diplomacy.” it is said in the post of the U.S. Mission to NATO.
Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that “Russia has created this crisis out of whole cloth and will have to justify to its people why it is stoking a potentially very bloody and costly conflict for Russia, rather than focusing on its own citizens’ health and on Russia’s own significant challenges in building back better.”
