"There are no thoughtless moves by the US", analysts comment on the congressmen's resolution on Kosovo in NATO

Doran Vojka, an international affairs analyst, was invited to Euronews Albania, where he spoke about the latest developments in the region. Vojka said that Kosovo's entry into NATO and the recently published request of congressmen are also related to the current state of geopolitics.

"There are no coincidences in politics, there are no thoughtless moves by the US. There is a movement in complete unison, a military movement by the army and a movement by the civilian side and by American politics, where it joined the request of the congressmen."

"I want to get back to reality a little. I would be more reserved about reality. Regarding this issue of Kosovo's entry into NATO in these short-term aspects, and I say this because, considering that the spirit in the US, the spirit of politicians, is not a spirit for NATO expansion but for exiting NATO. They see it as something negative. All these demands have come from Trump because they see NATO as a burden. One possibility why this movement is so fast is perhaps also due to the fact of the war with Iran. One of the largest banks, JP Morgan, says that the reserves will last until mid-May. One of the reasons that attention is being paid to Kosovo is that the gunpowder kept wet in the Balkans could follow there." - said analyst Doran Vojka.

Invited to a live broadcast from Washington for the show "Balkan Talks", publicist and journalist Keida Kostreci also commented on the initiative of three American congressmen to present a resolution in the House of Representatives supporting Kosovo's membership in NATO.

According to Kostrec, any action of this kind in the US has special significance, especially when support comes from a bipartisan perspective.

"Every resolution in support of Kosovo in the United States, especially when we have a group of congressional members from both parties, is important because it brings focus to what remains the 'Achilles heel' in the Balkans," she said.

However, the journalist emphasized that beyond political symbolism, the possibility of implementing such an initiative must be viewed realistically, taking into account the existing obstacles within the alliance.

"We must consider how realistic such a thing is, given that four NATO member countries do not recognize Kosovo and decision-making in NATO is done by consensus," emphasized Kostreci, underlining that such a process will also be complex.

She added that global dynamics and US foreign policy priorities directly affect this issue.

"It also remains to be seen how interested the US administration is in dealing with this topic, given other developments such as international tensions and complicated relations with several NATO countries," she said. In contrast, Kosovo received a political boost in its aim to become part of NATO, the military alliance that intervened in 1999 to end the war, after three US congressmen introduced a resolution this week in support of its long-standing aspiration.

The resolution, introduced on April 30 with bipartisan support from Congressmen Keith Self, Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, also prompted immediate reaction from Serbia, which regularly fights Kosovo's membership in international organizations.

Kosovo has not yet made a formal application to join NATO, as it faces major obstacles, such as the lack of recognition by four member states: Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

It is also currently transforming the Security Force into a full army, which is expected to last until 2028.

Furthermore, Kosovo is not even part of NATO's Partnership for Peace program, which serves as a pathway for any country that wishes to become a member of the military alliance.

Admitting a new member requires unanimity within the alliance, which is why the resolution presented by congressmen asks Washington to urge these four member countries to recognize the newest state in Europe.
